The Bitch Media Music Video — Start It

Jose: So what I’m saying is, I believe we
can make a music video that actually takes place in the office,
showing what you do. and it’s going to get a lot of people really
excited. I love Bitch, I support you, and I want to do
whatever I can to help. Julie: Jose, nonprofit feminist media like
Bitch relies on our readers for support. We need to raise awareness and we need to raise money. We’ll do it. Jose: So what you’re saying is, that
I can have full, complete access to the office? Any time, any place? Julie: Okay. Full access. Kate: Thirty thousand dollars.
That’s how much we have to raise
in our annual fundraising goal. It’s going to be a lot of work,
but if we put our heads together,
I know we can do it. We’re accepting donations of five dollars,
ten dollars, five hundred dollars.
Any amount helps. It’s going to be 535 new subscribers, 555 one-time…donors? This is opportunity; this is not a problem If we put our heads together, I bet anything we solve ’em Once we are all connected, we’ll be wired for the party Someone flip the switch, turn to the stereo, and start it If the only thing we need is to reach out to everybody Feel the beat, ride the groove,
let the center of the universe surround you There’s something special about the physical media Invaluable, immeasurable, original idea Once we are all connected, we’ll be wired for the party Someone flip the switch, turn to the stereo, and start it If the only thing we need is to reach out to everybody Feel the beat, ride the groove,
let the center of the universe surround you Once we are all connected, we’ll be wired for the party Someone flip the switch, turn to the stereo, and start it If the only thing we need is to reach out to everybody Feel the beat, ride the groove,
let the center of the universe surround you Every moment holds a beat
Let it carry to the street As we wind our way around
Making note of all the sounds And the image that we seek
Is a clear new future Every moment holds a beat
Let it carry to the streets As we wind our way around
Making note of all the sounds And the image that we seek
Is a clear new future Julie: Feminist independent media is dying breed. (to camera) That’s a terrible thing to say! Sarah: There is no point to this life.
We just trudge onward, through the snow… through the barren plains of desolation.

Bitch use to be my favorite magazines, but after watching this video, I plan to just let my subscription end. I think this magazine is still trying to do great things, but I have trouble negotiating this video as a feminist consumer and would rather put my money elsewhere. Why don't you have more POC working for you? Also, you couldn't find a female film maker? Instead you chose to operate from the idea that a man had to come in to financially save you? This just felt like an episode of Portlandia and not something I could relate to at all as a feminist….
