Reynad Plays Artifact | Keeper Draft | [Stream Highlights]

all right boys welcome the wonderful world of artifact did they get rid of all my cards no they got rid of all the cards no oh I miss having all of them Oh gaben oh do you guys want to see a draft or do you want to see constructed or did you prefer to see first yeah let me answer that question we're gonna play it we're gonna do a draft to start hold on I got a I got AI got a Pei Gabriel quick Haven clap yeah no code tempo for 30% of him all right let's do this are sure you want to use two tickets in five packs enter the gauntlet sure so we're gonna be keeping the cards that we draft and start by jumping into a draft so what goes into a deck of artifact so you get 40 normal cards you get five heroes and you have nine items for your item store the items are the least important and draft the heroes are the most important whenever you add a hero to your deck they automatically include five of their or sorry the automatically includes three copies of their specific hero card to your death this is Vernon Trey fuge if I pick this hero is one of the heroes I'll play with three verdant refuges are gonna be in my deck some heroes have really good stats they're really powerful they have a good ability but then the card that they add to your deck is really shitty and vice versa like some heroes are really weak but they give you very good cards so blue usually has the weakest creatures but the best hero cards or the weakest hero is the best hero cards green is like kind of in the middle red has the best creatures are the best heroes the weakest hero cards you start you start the game with three mana you can use three mana in each of your lanes so a car that cost three is basically a turn one play so the thing that gold is basically when you kill any creep in the game you get one gold any minion you kill gives you one gold and then every hero you kill gives you five gold and what the gold does is it lets you buy these item cards in between every turn so you get to pick up two one hero per pass you can't draft more than one hero per pack and we're gonna open five packs okay so you see these arrows here these arrows that are right next to the three that means you can play it in any lane so if I'm you if we're currently on lane one I can play this card targeting lane two or three if I want whereas if I like have selfish cleric I can only play it in the active Lane right now so this is really flexible giving three health to everything it blows out combat math and their permanent fucking buffs like you permanently buff your heroes and all your creeps for three this is the weirdest draft deck I've ever had it's the first one I've ever streamed how do we get four four gold mines we have four gold mines and six paydays and all of our equipment is garbage I mean it's a plan so every every hero as you can see up on actually doesn't show it but every hero has three items that they can equip one weapon one armor and one heart thing you can't equip two hearts you can't equip two weapons so usually you want like a split of the three different categories the heart the armor and the sword this is the part of the game I'm most accustomed to I'm just sitting here with searching happening because I can never find a fucking game in the beta get it down to like 28 actually you know this is this is twitch.tv slash rain ad 27 there we go destiny basically the idea is you make one action and then they make one action and then you make one action and when both of you are say okay I'm done playing stuff then everything attacks the thing in front of it so everything you do in play is leading up to combat at the end of turn so I only have a green hero in that Lane which means I can't play my black cards see I only had a green hero so I couldn't play any of these now I have a black hero in this Lane and I am allowed to play a black card I'm gonna not play no accident and the reason is I I have priority I have the triangle now which means I'll be the first person to play stuff so I wanted like the maintain priority given the option one thing about this game that really irritates me and this this is this problem is like especially compounded with cards like iron fog gold mine is that there's no Mulligan so if you just don't get iron fog in your opening hand I have four copies of it in my deck I didn't get a single one in my opening hand so now I'm gonna be drawing the mid-game and there's so much worse when you don't play them turn one like if I could have played iron Fogg iron Fogg and turn one I would have won the game these paydays would be popping off we'd be you know doing crazy shit but since you don't get a mulligan it's really hard to like control your opening hand I should say I should explain how to win the game I never actually told people that it's the way you win the game is you either killed two of these towers that have 40 health so you kill one in each lane or like after you kill a tower it gets replaced with an 80 health tower so you either have to kill 2 of the 40 health ones or you kill one tower twice so you have to kill the 41 and then you kill the one with 80 health after so what most people do is after they're gonna lose a lane too hard they just ignore it and they focus all the resources on the other two lanes and they try to race the opponent but what I've found works best is to try to have control of all three lanes as long as you can because if you're forced to abandon Elaine sooner like basically the sooner you're forced to ban in a lane the more behind you are is just kind of how I feel about it so so the secret shop is kind of stupid since its orangey the thing is like the whole game is orangey man like every part of the game there's gross amounts of RNG like there's a lot of it but there's also a lot of decisions so you some strategies are just higher variance than others you know like the shop deed strategy really high variance yeah it's Drive crow again the game queues you into the same player even though you're playing best the ones which also sucks but it needs to do that otherwise nobody would be able to find a game oh hell with the Dominator okay so I'm gonna hold I pay 1 gold to make sure it shows up next turn this is one of the items that just wins the game on its own I play game with this much RNG I mean you also make a lot of decisions it's not like an all orangy game or anything it's just very orangey heavy you know Ray Knight I don't know anything about TCG how much money should I need to spend to be competitive in this game it depends on what kind of competitive right like you're drafting you don't need to own cards you just need to pay for the draft and each draft costs you $10 plus like $14 per draft well sorry it's $14 for the version of draft or you to keep your cards what's going to matter for streamers is like do people like watching the game personally I think the game is really hard to follow I think the fact that there's no long period of downtime makes it really hard to talk to your chat while you play I think I think the biggest barrier for being successful on Twitch is that I just don't think it's a game that the average player will like I actually don't think you'll be popular there's so many things I love about artifact but despite loving all those things I just don't think it'll be popular 25 percent this is what I mean about the RNG bullshit 75 percent of the time for those guys that are wondering how arrows work if you play a creature and there's an empty space across from it 50% of the time it goes straight 25% of the time it goes left and 25% of the time it goes right so if he rolled a the 50% to go straight it would not attack Zeus if he rolled the 25% to go left it would end up going straight and he instead got the 25% to kill Zeus for free so I've just lost two of my heroes on turn 1 and the game is fucking over I don't I think the lore in this games I think it did a fine job with it I mean I've never played dota in my life but I think the heroes have flavor I think that their abilities are pretty representative of the abilities in-game in a lot of cases the artwork is great it's the only three lane guard game ever I don't know it's it's tough to make a MOBA feel like it starts to make a card game feel like a MOBA you know every time you push that button its remaining you bitch shut the fuck up I turned your voice to zero positive vibes only rain had yet I get so salty when I'm like trying to like talk as a streamer and then the fucking voice thing just keeps talking like screams at you every five seconds by a male announcer it's not a gender thing if it was a male announcing I'd be just as pissed announcer voice DLC coming for $10 look when I play this game it's super hard to look at chat and be a streamer because you get priority every five seconds and then Buffy the Vampire Slayer fucking yells at you 15 seconds five seconds you know it's stressful what is initiative it's a great question so basically an artifact you get a each player gets to do one thing and then the other guy gets to do one thing and then after he does his thing you get to do your thing initiative basically means like who is the first person that gets to do something in the lane right now I don't have initiative I'm second see I played a thing and then he chose to do nothing since he chose to do nothing he has initiative once again I did a thing he did nothing so basically I'm the one that has the final say saying okay now we attack since I said okay we're done playing stuff he gets to make the first move now and since he gets to make the first move he can play a card that like kills one of my minions and then I I'm missing a color for the turn you know the only fair card game in the world now a lot of people say that but I will see a lot of people seem mad about the expensive business model I think they're only paying attention to the upfront cost which makes sense that's like the immediate concern for most people they're not thinking about the fact that they can get their money out of the game I think as a business having an open economy is like a really dangerous thing to have in your card game oh wait I'm playing against mozzie I didn't even notice the username damn dude we want a game boys we got there I think we won hey strife crow again it's the third time I'm cute into him he's still playing this kid he's just trying to farm me man he's Q sniping he's just waiting to get rain add yeah Thunder hi definitely her horn of the Alpha definitely beat me single-handedly there I was winning like the whole game and then he played the twenty five cost item that wins the game on its own you know what guys you know what you know what that's enough artifact for today I gets enough artifact for today you

Yeah, I just learned today that initiative carries over between lanes. I thought for some reason it was just random and I would get so mad when my opponent would have initiative on hotly contested lanes, assuming it was RNG… lol… Tutorial didn't really make that clear.

I personally prefer watching Artifact over Heartstone or MTG Arena. 🙂

"I lost 2 of my heroes on turn one and game is f** over". What?! BS. For people who don't follow – a dead hero is repositioned after 1 turn, allowing you to focus on a lane that you care at that moment. It is a crucial game mechanic and no, losing 2 heroes on turn one does not make you loose game – it works against you in turn 2, but you'll have stronger turn 3 than your opponent.

Is there any way to complete your collection through ingame mechanics? Like HS has the quests/brawl ?

Overall, it seems too hard to follow as a viewer. So i dunno how well it will perform as an e-sport.
In HS you take one glance at the board and you immediately know what is going on. Not in Artifact.
The de-saturated colors and blended-in graphics of values/numbers make it even worse.

    And… WHAT?? There's not mulligan? That's absurd!

Having said that, i did pre-purchase it, and i will be playing it for a while.

Considering how you trashed the game on day 1 I don't know why you are still playing it.

Some people don't have enough brain power to find artifact fun. Some people have too much brain power to find hearthstone fun. It's just how it is.

I'm not sure which is worse; the horibad monetization scheme or the hilarious level of needless complication. They're both worse.

The cost of the game is what killed it for me. You have to spend money to play any of the true competitive gamemodes, and there’s no way to go infinite while not spending money. Every other online TCG has a way to earn everything without spending a dime which just isn’t possible.

I guess it might be wise to play some (recently) before the tourney you got invited to…for a game you don't like…instead of you know sticking to not liking it and turning down the tourney.

I know depth is revered in most games, but looking at gameplay of Artifact, it might be a touch TOO deep. It looks pretty convoluted.

Yeah nope, I'll be passing on this. Looks dry, confusing and not fun to watch. Even if it is a good game once you've learned everything most people won't give it a chance. Shame too, I deleted hearthstone 6 months and have been itching to play another card game.

14 dollars for a draft? fuck off. you don't get to charge the same amount as physical magic without the physical cards that go along with it. If WotC goes under, i can still play kitchen table magic with my friends, i can still go to my local lgs and play with people. This game goes under, there goes all my money with nothing to show for it. you dont have to print them and you dont have to distribute them around to physical stores so again, fuck off.
