Fashion Photography – Seoul Fashion Week FW (2019)

Alright everyone so today we’re gonna be shooting
at Seoul Fashion week FW. Now unlike most videos, I’m gonna be walking
you through what it is like to be shooting as a photographer and not the actual Korean
fashion. Because believe me, I’m the last person you
want to ask about Korean fashion. I don’t know a thing about it except that
you need a 50 or an 85mm. But besides that, I’m gonna be giving you
guys some information, where to shoot, where you can’t shoot, what you will be needing
like passes and afterwards I’m going to be giving you a little tour of Dongdaemun design
plaza at night and some awesome pictures you can take – not Korean fashion related just
my style. Alright so there’s some necessary information
for you guys to know if you’re coming to shoot at DDP. There are press passes available. If you want a press pass, you can get them
at the official Seoul fashion week website. Now, as far as I’m aware. There’s two kinds of press passes. There’s one pass that allows you to shoot
inside, like where the runway is at. And there’s another pass that let’s you shoot
inside the building, not at the runway necessarily. Now the thing is you can’t actually get both
press passes. You can only one or the other. But if you’re just a lonely photographer such
as myself, and you don’t want you can actually just shoot out here where all these people
are at so that’s perfectly fine. One more thing that I wanted to point out
before I forget is that the permits are actually free. My friend just told me that you can get the
permits you’ve just got to register. And as long as you are not using it for like
commercial purposes. If you are just shooting for yourself, I think
you should be fine, but if you are looking to make a profit then you are gonna have to
like really pay up or something. I don’t know well. Like I said, I am not a fashion photographer,
but I am really enjoying my time and I wanted to suggest you guys three fashion photographers
that I know pretty well. And I think if you have an interest in Korean
fashion, if you have interest in Korea you will like following them. First we have one is Michael Hurt. He is very well known in the expat fashion
world here. My friend Antonio, I’ve actually shot a video
with him before, he does like a lot of film fashion, he likes his film camera. He’s a pretty cool guy and one guy that I’ve
known since I came to Korea like six or seven years ago – his name is Alex Finch. He actually shoots for Vogue sometimes, so
quick shout out to him and be sure that if you follow them, tell them I sent you guys. Sure, there’s lots of models and I’m sure
they’d all be very happy to let you shoot them; however, just out of proper etiquette. Be sure to ask for permission first, because
I’ve been seeing a lot of models and they have a photographer taking their photo but
then I see somebody else trying to get in front of the other photographer and taking
the picture. You know that’s not cool. So build up a rapport with a model, ask them,
“May I shoot your photo?” If they say it’s cool, which they probably
will. Take their photo. Before we go on please be sure to hit that
like and subscribe button and if you are finding my video useful, please be sure to leave a
comment telling me. If you come on a weekend, you’re probably
going to catch a bunch of like middle school and high school students because they are
really into fashion. And unfortunately, there’s also a lot of like
pervy grandpas. So, if you’re into that high school girl look
with like short skirts and all that, come on a weekend. I mean you can still find them now, but just
letting you know. I know you guys are out there. Anyways, please enjoy and see you. I don’t know if you see the ramp behind me
over there, but it seems that is where most of the action is going on. Like, I know if you want to come to Fashion
week SFW, and you’re a fashion photographer, you’re worried that you couldn’t get an RSVP
to get a pass inside or outside. I don’t think you should worry very much because
most of the photographers are actually out there and so are most of the models and students. And people who want to be photographed. So…no worries. Check out the ramp and the area surrounding
it. And if you like this video, give it a like
and I hope you found it useful. Sun’s going down, so I’m gonna stick around
and take the kind of photos that I like. Hope you like them too.

Loving your work man, the photographers actually give SFW a real buzz and make it into what it is. I love your images at the end.

Was that time lapse at 6:53 taken from a cafe or something?

I can't believe I've never been to DDP at night (I always seem to go during day). Looks amazing, definitely gonna try this next time I visit.
