3D printed smart clothing

we're checking out one of the interactive Innovation Award winners here at South by Southwest and I'm here with the designer herself banaz gonna talk us through how the caress of the gaze works so but now how does this wearable even operate so this is a 3d printed interactive garment that it can it has a camera embedded inside that it can seize your gaze your gender and even your age and based on where your looking at it moves and responds so it's a lot of inspiration from nature as you can see this is one of the prototypes as you can see it's 3d printed using multi-material 3d printing so it's soft and hard and various different materials properties this is eight different materials is printed with object printers at Pier nine so cool it almost feels like almost like reptile scales or even like bird feathers almost but you're combining nature with tech because you mentioned eye tracking yes so it's basically has a camera that it can track your age and gender here you can see the demo of the camera so here the camera is embedded in the inside the 3d printed objects it can seize your and various information what I did I basically compute the yaw and pitch value of where you're looking at to the motion of the garment so basically where you're looking at its gonna move like a goose bump that is incredible okay coupe neck we actually see it work on the garment itself so it's both tilting the viewer that hey you've been looked out and also tell the other people that hey back up I actually notice that you're nice just like in nature right oh wow it's so cool it's actually a little unsettling how it does sort of look like muscles that are contracting in movement but as that is so cool and crazy that's awesome it's absolutely one of the most eye-opening and I guess I tracking examples of wearable innovation that I've actually seen in recent memory this is amazing and this is just the first day

So the point of this ridiculous clothing is to tell you not to look at it?

The gender tracker is really useful because I always switch genders back and forth and it's always a pain to tell my shirt what gender I am.

That could eventually recognize incoming objects like a punch or a knife and form a shield to protect you, or give you a nice airflow when riding a motorcycle but form a sturdy vest if in a crash. It could be an active camouflage for military use.
